Army ROTC Student Brian Bierwirth of Clifton Recognized at Clarkson University

Clarkson University Army ROTC battalion cadet Brian P. Bierwirth of Clifton, Va., will be commissioned into the U.S. Army this summer. This year, seven Clarkson students were commissioned into the U.S. Army and became second lieutenants and four students who will be commissioned in the near future were recognized. Bierwirth graduated from Clarkson on May 8th, and majored in information systems and business processes.

The ceremony featured comments by Clarkson President Tony Collins, as well as guest speaker retired Lt. Gen. William Welser of the United States Air Force. Welser served for more than 34 years in the Air Force and is vice president, Air Mobility Systems, at Northrop Grumman.

The ceremony also included the swearing in of the new officers, the pinning on of their gold bars by family members, and the traditional first salute, known as the silver dollar salute.
