Clarkson University Civil Engineering Student Jacqui Scibior Leads Team to Victory at National Conference

Clarkson University civil engineering student Jacqui Scibior of Sauquoit, N.Y., served as captain of the winning project team at the Construction Institute of American Society of Civil Engineers annual Student Days conference.

The conference, hosted in Orange County, Calif. this summer, brought together 30 of the best engineering students in the country and divides them into teams of five with a project to complete in three days. Students not only competed, but also formed friendships and built professional connections.

This year's competition asked students to develop a construction bid proposal and formal presentation for a real-life seawall reconstruction project in Long Beach, Calif.

Scibior's team, consisting entirely of students from the East Coast, placed first by focusing on efficiency and organization, and they even had time to watch the U.S. Open of Surfing. Scibior told ASCE Roundup that the team gelled during the competition. "We ended up putting together a very clean project," she said.

"We all had very clear-cut roles. We all got along really well together."
