Clarkson University Student Adam Rainville of Lincoln Wins CEO Startup Simulation Challenge

The Clarkson University chapter of the Collegiate Entrepreneurs' Organization (CEO) took first place this spring at the first CEO Startup Simulation Challenge Competition.

Adam Rainville of Lincoln, Vt., a freshman majoring in engineering and management, participated as a team member in this year's competition.

The two-month game, hosted on the Marketplace Business Simulator, began in March, when each of 22 teams was given a startup computer development company with which to make life-like business decisions and attempt take the business to success. After weeks of game play, the field was narrowed down to six finalists, each of whom made video pitches to potential investors on their hypothetical startup computer company, before winners were determined.

Clarkson's team was awarded $1,000 and other prizes.

Louisiana State University took second place and Quinnipiac University came in third.

Other teams participating in the competition included University of Nebraska-Omaha, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Harold Washington College, Pittsburgh University, Kansas State University, California State University-Fresno, University of Missouri-Columbia, University of Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Louis University, Johnson Community College, Michigan Tech University, Northern Kentucky University, California State University-Fullerton, and Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

The winning teams will be recognized at the CEO National Conference in October in Fort Worth, Texas.
