Clarkson University Student Cayley Mercer of Exeter to Compete in 2013 NCAA Women's Hockey Tournament

Cayley Mercer of Mercer, Ontario, a member of the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team, has helped lead the Golden Knights to the best season ever in the program's 10-year history.

Mercer, a freshman forward, majoring in business studies, will play a role for Clarkson when the Green and Gold open NCAA Tournament play. On Saturday, the Knights face off against Boston University in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament at Walter Brown Arena in Boston, Mass. Clarkson is one of eight teams in the country who have advance to the prestigious national tournament. This is Clarkson' second appearance ever in the NCAA Tournament and first showing since 2010.

The four winners of the one-game quarterfinal round will advance to the 13th annual NCAA Women's Hockey Championship Tournament to be play at Ridder Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Semifinal games will take place on Friday, March 22 and the championship game will be played on Sunday, March 24.

Owning the best record ever in the program's history, Clarkson is ranked sixth in the national polls and stands at 28-9 overall. The Golden Knights finished in second place in the ECAC Hockey standings, one point out of first with an 18-4 conference mark.
