Clarkson University Student Derek Dustin of Fort Covington, N.Y., Recognized for Science Presentation

2014 Jun 30

Clarkson University student Derek J. Dustin of Fort Covington, N.Y., was recently honored at a research conference sponsored by the Northern New York Local Section of the American Chemical Society.

Dustin, a senior majoring in biology, was awarded first place in research with Clarkson University Professor He Dong. The research focused on the development of antimicrobial agents using supramolecular peptides.

“It’s a pleasure to work with undergraduate students, and especially through this opportunity where you can teach them and train them and pass your knowledge on to those students,” said Dong. “It feels so rewarding to see them work independently, and you’re so excited when they have their own ideas and own design.”

Clarkson University launches leaders into the global economy. One in five alumni already leads as a CEO, VP or equivalent senior executive of a company. Located just outside the Adirondack Park in Potsdam, N.Y., Clarkson is a nationally recognized research university for undergraduates with select graduate programs in signature areas of academic excellence directed toward the world's pressing issues.
