Clarkson University Student Kevin Sweeney of Middletown, N.Y., Attends Pi Tau Sigma National Convention

2013 Jun 20

Kevin Sweeney of Middletown, N.Y., a Clarkson University junior majoring in mechanical engineering, recently attended the annual convention for Pi Tau Sigma, the international mechanical engineering honor society.

The convention provided Clarkson students with an opportunity to meet and network with other Pi Tau Sigma members from around the country, as well as nominate national officers for the honor society. Nearly 60 chapters attended the convention; there are approximately 55 Clarkson students active in Clarkson's Tau Gamma chapter.

The students also listened to a panel discussion featuring officials from Honda R&D, Pratt & Whitney, Autodesk and Schlumberger on "Engineering for a Societal Impact." The panelists shared their experiences in the engineering field and offered advice to students.

The trip to central Ohio also included a tour of the National Electric Coil plant, which provides repairs of electrical components for motors used in power generation plants, and of the Ohio State Football Stadium. The students also received a presentation on cloud computing technology from Autodesk, a software corporation.

Clarkson University launches leaders into the global economy. One in five alumni already leads as a CEO, VP or equivalent senior executive of a company. Located just outside the Adirondack Park in Potsdam, N.Y., Clarkson is a nationally recognized research university for undergraduates with select graduate programs in signature areas of academic excellence directed toward the world's pressing issues. Through 50 rigorous programs of study in engineering, business, arts, sciences and health sciences, the entire learning-living community spans boundaries across disciplines, nations and cultures to build powers of observation, challenge the status quo, and connect discovery and engineering innovation with enterprise.
