Kathryn Wershing of West Henrietta Completes The Clarkson School Early College Program at Clarkson University

2012 May 17

On Saturday, May 5, nearly 60 students completed The Clarkson School Early College Program at Clarkson University.

Kathryn C. Wershing from West Henrietta, N.Y., was among one of the students receiving this honor. Next year, Kathryn plans to attend SUNY Brockport majoring in biology.

The Clarkson School is Clarkson University's early college entrance program, which provides exceptional high school age students with a full academic year of residency-based interdisciplinary education, typically before they would have graduated high school.

Clarkson School students have the best of both worlds – access to all the resources and amenities of a nationally ranked university, with separate residential facilities, and a faculty and staff dedicated to meeting their unique individual and collective needs.

Students are considered first-year undergraduates, taking a full course load alongside other Clarkson University freshmen. Since Clarkson School students enter Clarkson University as fully matriculated first-year students, they have access to all University facilities, participate in clubs/organizations, can join varsity sports teams, and earn up to 32 college credits.

At the same time, Clarkson School students are immersed in a supportive residential environment with specialized programs and activities that bridge the gap between high school and college.

Students who finish the academic year in good standing may automatically continue as sophomores at Clarkson, or move onto other top colleges and universities around the country, taking the college credits earned for evaluation.

Clarkson University launches leaders into the global economy. One in five alumni already leads as a CEO, VP or equivalent senior executive of a company. Located just outside the Adirondack Park in Potsdam, N.Y., Clarkson is a nationally recognized research university for undergraduates with select graduate programs in signature areas of academic excellence directed toward the world's pressing issues. Through 50 rigorous programs of study in engineering, business, arts, sciences and health sciences, the entire learning-living community spans boundaries across disciplines, nations and cultures to build powers of observation, challenge the status quo, and connect discovery and engineering innovation with enterprise. Of the 1,003 universities in Payscale's College Salary Report, Clarkson graduates have the seventeenth highest starting salaries.
