Ryan Ericson of Lansboro Competes on Clarkson University A Cappella Singing Group In Boston

2013 Mar 27

Ryan Ericson of Lansboro, Mass., a senior majoring in electrical engineering, recently participated on the Clarkson University a cappella singing group in a regional competition.

The Ultravioletones traveled to Boston in January to compete in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella regional quarterfinals. It was a quick turnaround for the 10-member Ultravioletones, which had formed in the previous semester.

The singers submitted an audition video on November 1 and found out in mid-November that they were headed to Boston; leaving only two weeks to rehearse when they returned to campus for the spring semester before traveling to the competition.

The group performed "Below My Feet" by Mumford and Sons, "Figure 8" by Ellie Goulding, and "Wannabe/I Want You Back" by Spice Girls/NSYNC in Boston. While the group did not advance, team members remain hopeful the experience will pave the way for future competitions.

Clarkson University launches leaders into the global economy. One in five alumni already leads as a CEO, VP or equivalent senior executive of a company. Located just outside the Adirondack Park in Potsdam, N.Y., Clarkson is a nationally recognized research university for undergraduates with select graduate programs in signature areas of academic excellence directed toward the world's pressing issues. Through 50 rigorous programs of study in engineering, business, arts, sciences and health sciences, the entire learning-living community spans boundaries across disciplines, nations and cultures to build powers of observation, challenge the status quo, and connect discovery and engineering innovation with enterprise.
