Clarkson Students Earn Top Honors From IEEE Power and Energy Society
Potsdam, NY (01/13/2026) — Four Clarkson University students have been awarded scholarships through the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Power and Energy Society (PES) Scholarship Plus Initiative for the 2025-26 academic year. Among them, one student was also selected as a 2025-26 John W. Estey Outstanding Scholar, one of the highest regional honors presented by IEEE PES.
With four recipients this year, Clarkson is the No. 1 institution in the Northeastern United States for the IEEE Power and Energy Society Scholarship Plus Initiative, underscoring the University's leadership in educating future engineers for the energy sector.
Orion DeLisle '26, from Gansevoort, NY was named both an IEEE PES Scholarship Plus recipient and the 2025-26 John W. Estey Outstanding Scholar for IEEE PES Region 1. The Estey Outstanding Scholar distinction is awarded annually to the top scholar in the region and is supported by the S&C Foundation.
Applied mathematics and electrical engineering double major Hunter Hendry '26, from Plattsburgh, NY; and electrical engineering majors Logan Hobbs '27 from Fowler, IL and Brett Morrison '26 from Roxbury, NY, also received IEEE PES Scholarship Plus awards.
The IEEE PES Scholarship Plus Initiative is a national program supporting undergraduate students pursuing careers in power and energy engineering. For the 2025-26 academic year, 244 students were selected from the United States, Canada and Latin America. These undergraduate students are majoring in one of the IEEE-designated fields, are high achievers with strong GPAs, with distinctive extracurricular commitments, and are committed to exploring the power and energy field.
"We are pleased to see Clarkson's students are recognized with this prestigious IEEE PES scholarship. Congratulations to Orion, Hunter, Logan, and Brett; this honor is well deserved," said Leo Jiang, associate professor and director of the Center for Electric Power System Research. "As the energy system transitions from traditional fossil fuels to renewable energy resources, the power industry requires an influx of talent from diverse disciplines. Clarkson's power program, known for its strong collaboration with industry in both research and education, is proud to support our students as they succeed and lead in the evolving electricity sector."
