Clarkson Students Win American Concrete Institute Foundation Scholarships

Potsdam, NY (05/21/2025) — Two Clarkson undergraduates have been awarded prestigious scholarships by the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Foundation.

Dan Corcoran, of Sparrow Bush, NY was awarded the ACI Foundation Scholarship, worth $5,000. Corcoran is a rising senior majoring in civil engineering and a member of the honors program. He is an experienced concrete practitioner who has worked for his family's masonry business for years.

Angela Tewksbury, of Livonia, NY was awarded the ACI 201 Undergraduate Concrete Durability Scholarship, also worth $5,000. Tewksbury is a rising senior majoring in civil and environmental engineering. She is also a member of the Society of Women Engineers as well as the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers.

Corcoran and Tewksbury both work as undergraduate researchers in Associate Professor Robert Thomas' laboratory. Their projects focus on the durability of concrete made with low-carbon alternative cements.

"I am extremely proud of Dan and Angela," Thomas said. "These awards are a direct result of their hard work and excellence in academics, research, and citizenship. Winning two scholarships in one year is even better, and it reflects the strength of Clarkson's programs and students."

The ACI Foundation is a non-profit subsidiary of ACI that promotes progress, innovation, and collaboration in the concrete industry through strategic investments in ideas, research, and people to create the future of the concrete industry. Since the inception of the Foundation's Fellowship program in 2008, the ACI Foundation has provided financial support, mentorship, and internship opportunities to over 400 students. This year the ACI Foundation awarded 28 fellowships and 15 scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students from 35 different institutions across North America.
