Clarkson University Technology Showcase and Competition
Clarkson University invites startup investors, industry leaders, and alumni to 2nd annual Technology Showcase and Competition in Buffalo on October 26th
Potsdam, NY (10/20/2022) — POTSDAM, NY (October 20, 2022) - Clarkson University will be descending on Western New York next week for their 2nd annual Technology Showcase & Competition. The October 26th event will feature investment pitches from ten startup companies founded by a faculty member or alumnus of Clarkson University. More than $75,000 in prizes will be awarded to help accelerate the commercialization of a range of exciting new inventions including medical devices, water remediation technologies, safety equipment, clean energy solutions and more! While most companies competing at the showcase are based in New York's North Country region, many of them have been assisted by regional resources including Buffalo-based LaunchNY, RIT's Venture Creations Incubator, and the Syracuse Tech Garden. Admission to the event is free, but registration is encouraged.
This event is designed to create opportunities for these selected companies and their founders to engage with industry leaders and startup investors located outside of the North Country, while also showcasing the outstanding work taking place at one New York State's oldest engineering and research universities. Startup investors and other professionals that choose to attend will not only have the chance to sit in on pitches from each of these companies, but they will also have the opportunity to engage 1-on-1 with company founders. In addition to the $75,000 in prize money that will be awarded by a panel of expert judges, audience members will have the chance to select three separate $1,000 prize winners.
A few of the companies competing for the top prize of $40,000 include: Ducted Wind Turbines, who is designing, building, and selling economically viable ducted turbines that can produce close to 50% more energy as a similar sized open rotor turbine; DMAX Plasma, which offers a patented Enhanced Contact Plasma Reactor to destroy harmful PFAS in contaminated water; Pirouette Medical, a company focusing on the development of a low-profile, disk-shaped auto-injector with a patient-centric focus on affordability, portability, and usability, and; Swift Rails, based in Buffalo, which is focused on developing a new type of individualized, on-demand transit that is 5x faster and 40x cheaper than conventional light-rail.
