Clarkson University Army ROTC Students Commissioned

The Army ROTC Golden Knight Battalion at Clarkson University commissioned ten cadets into the U.S. Army at the annual spring commissioning on May 11. The ceremony featured comments by University President Tony Collins and guest speaker retired Lt. Gen. John L. Woodward Jr. A product of Air Force ROTC, Woodward's final position before retiring was as the deputy chief of staff for communications and information and deputy chief information officer at U.S. Air Force Headquarters in Washington, D.C. The ceremony also included the swearing in of the new officers, the pinning of their gold bars by family members, and the traditional first salute, known as the silver dollar salute. The following students were commissioned at the ceremony:

Local Clarkson University Students Take First Place at New York State Pollution Prevention Institute Competition

A team of students from Clarkson University received first place in the New York State Pollution Prevention Institute "Greening Your Campus" student competition. The goal of the students' project, "Dormitory Motion Sensor Lighting," was to reduce lighting use in residence hall corridors by using motion sensors. They projected energy and cost savings to be around $600,000 per year with a three- to five-year payback on the investment. Electrical and computer engineering Professor Thomas Ortmeyer served as faculty/staff advisor. The following local students represented Clarkson University in the competition:

Local Clarkson University Students Take Fourth Place in Adirondack Cup Investment Competition, Beating Russell 2000 Index

A team of nine undergraduate and graduate business students from Clarkson University has taken fourth place in the first Adirondack Cup Investment Competition, in which college teams competed against each other over six months to build and grow a small cap portfolio of stocks. Local Students Helped Lead Clarkson University Nordic Ski Team to 2012 USCSA National Championship

The following local student-athletes were top performers for the Clarkson University Nordic Ski team this winter and helped to lead the Golden Knights to 2012 National Title at the United States Collegiate Ski Association (USCSA) Championships in Sunday River, Maine on March 5-11.

Local Clarkson University Students Move into Second Place in Adirondack Cup Investment Competition

With a little over a month to go in the Adirondack Cup competition, the small cap investment portfolio managed by Clarkson University students surged into second place this past week with a 28 percent rate of return since October 17, 2011, on a hypothetical million dollar fund. Clarkson, which is fielding a team comprised of undergraduate and graduate business students, is among 18 schools which began the Cup challenge in October. The following local students are representing Clarkson University in the competition:

Local Clarkson University Students Receive Highest Award at International Contest in South Korea

The Clarkson University Environmental Design Team won the highest award in the 2012 International Capstone Design Contest on Renewable Energy Technology (CORE2012) at Mokpo, South Korea, earlier this month. The competition is sponsored by Mokpo National University and the Offshore Wind Energy Center, both of South Korea. The following graduate students traveled to Mokpo to present the work of the design team:
